In the garden...

Lavender

by Simon Newman
The herbaceous borders in the Walled Garden are at their best this month, and you can still see a variety of repeat flowering roses. You can't miss the lavender dotted around the grounds, which fill the air with their unmistakeable scent.

The gardeners will be hard at work as August is a month for maintenance, from pruning and edging to a weed cut in the river! Find out more about the gardens...

The Walled Garden Appeal

Thousands of people visit Mottisfont every June to experience the heritage collection of 19th-Century roses. But to get to them, visitors pass through an area that used to be a frame yard, which still feels quite stark and utilitarian.

Mottisfont Abbey want to do something amazing with this space...

The gardeners will be drawing up plans for the new garden this month. The new design will be a fitting introduction to our rose garden and will extend the garden season beyond June, giving you and many others another reason to come back and visit throughout the seasons.

Since the Walled Garden Appeal was launched last year they have raised almost half of their £500,000 target.

New Visitor Facility

Mottisfont Abbey are at an exciting phase of their new facilities build. The structure of the buildings is now in place, and you can clearly see the layout of the new reception, shop and other areas. Meanwhile, they are also busy developing the food offer and detailed plans for the Coach House Café, which will occupy the spot vacated once the shop has moved up to the new facilities. They can't wait to unveil these new features, which will make an enormous difference to visitors. You can see for yourself when they open it early next year.

Remember you can visit Mottisfont by train as the station is only half a mile or so a way, but on a Sunday you can catch our Free bus from the station to Mottisfont at 11.32hrs and 13.32hrs.

It couldn't be easier!
