Railway volunteers raise over £340 for charity

Last Saturday, volunteers from the Partnership's Romsey Station group attended the Romsey Show at Broadlands as part of their ongoing commemorations of World War One.

In conjunction with Combat Stress charity the volunteers staffed a table in the World War One exhibition tent and held a raffle for teddy bears dressed in replica uniforms from the time. (The uniforms had been specially made by Romsey residents for this occasion.) In addition, wrist bands were sold, details of the proposed war memorial at Romsey Station displayed and a great deal of rail information was given out.

The commemorative war information display, usually housed at Romsey Station waiting room, was temporarily moved to the Show and visitors were encouraged to add their stories and reminiscences to the growing documentation being gathered by the volunteers.

All in all, over £340 was raised for Combat Stress charity and special thanks should go to Shirley, Simon, Carolyn, Caroline, Rosie and Vicky who organised the stall and enthusiastically and tirelessly engaged with the crowds throughout the day.
